Back in the saddle again
So it was a long summer. I had some gift money and I decided to blow it on this: a cotton candy pink cruiser bike with white walls, daisy flowers and a large pink basket up front. It is absurdly girly and I feel about 10 when I ride it. It quite literally sends me back to the time when I rode a sparkly green bike with high handlebars and a flowered banana seat (yeah, '70's).
We took the beauty out for a long ride today, picking up farmer's market potatoes, apples and lettuce with the (I kid you not) $6 in cash we had remaining between us (the all-cash bike/bike rack deal I cut required a little wallet scavenging). It was lovely. And it will be lovelier still when I tap the seventh food group, Advil, before bed. I don't care, I'm going to ride like the wind anyway.
Meanwhile, I've stepped out of the high fashion world of property management (leaving behind my only two amusements: the female Dwight Schrute, and a woman I genuinely like, who has just been fired anyway, because she was not, "economically feasible.") and into university education. As an instructor. It's the most challenging thing I've tried to do, particularly given my interest in being left alone in a dark corner with my (odd) thoughts. A LARGE class. And the transition hasn't afforded me the opportunity to reveal much. That, and I've been up to my ass in Powerpoint slides, programming a class web site, and trying not to sign up for anxiety medication because of my fears that the class will catch up to the portion of the class I left off planning because there wasn't enough time (Scottie!). That said, it's a great way to exert my nutrition geekiness on a captive (heaven help them) audience.
I can drop this little pearl of wisdom: For those who tremble with fear (read: sweat like a thief under police questioning) when speaking in public, wear white. Cotton.
